Comparative Texts – Prac SAC

Hey there kiddos –

Here are the Prac SAC questions for our studies of The Queen and Ransom:

  1. Discuss the implications of being both a parent and a leader on one’s ability to do both roles effectively.

  2. “To Hecuba the image is a shocking one, she is more tied to convention than she believes.” (Ransom)
    “The flag has not been lowered in 400 years.” (The Queen)

        The authors demonstrate how effective leadership is about maintaining a sense of convention. Discuss.

Comparative Texts – Using our Graphic Organisers

Hey there kiddos –

We should have finished our work putting COMPARATIVE TABLES relating to THE QUEEN and RANSOM together: now we have to put them to use!!TASK 1: THE RIVER CROSSINGS

Once you have finished this, look at the worked sample below, and then look through your THEME SHEETS relating to the RIVER CROSSINGS and write up a sentence that includes a GENERAL COMMENT, an EXAMPLE and an EMBEDDED QUOTE

TASK 2:

Using the general observations, specific examples and quotes from your relevant GRAPHIC ORGANISERS, look at deconstructing and writing up QUICK WRITES for some/all of the following prompts:

NB: PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO PROMPT 5 – WE WILL BE DOING THIS AS A WHOLE CLASS ACTIVITY:

TASK 3:

Once you have finished doing a couple of these QUICK WRITES, choose which one you think is the best in terms of content, logical links between general information and specific examples and/or quotes, and written expression – AGAIN, YOU WILL NEED TO BE ABLE TO EXPLAIN HOW YOU PUT YOUR WRITTEN PIECE TOGETHER & WHY YOU CHOSE TO GO ABOUT YOUR WRITING IN THIS MANNER

SHARE this work with some of your classmates

RECORD your comments on a response sheet that is posted in our Google Classroom

Comparative Texts – ‘Ransom’ & ‘The Queen’ – Putting it all together

Hey there kiddos –

So …

… we’ve looked at both RANSOM and THE QUEEN – looking at themes in common, and the characters/major players in both texts …

… and now the fun begins!! 🙂 …

… IT’S TIME TO GET DOWN AND DIRTY!!

… well … maybe I’m going a little over the top there …

… BUT it is time to look at comparing and contrasting the ideas explored by the author/director, and the way that individual characters react to situations that challenge their traditional roles within their relevant societies

Here are some links through to YouTube clips that we will look at in class in relation to this:

Comparative Texts – developing comparative graphic organisers

Hey there kiddos –

It’s time to put all of our hard work looking at the ideas/themes and inter-relationships between characters in the individual texts together in a format that will be more readily usable for you to respond to specific questions/prompts relating to our studies.

To do this, we will developing our graphic organisers around the themes that we have used in our studies of the individual texts:

  • Leadership;
  • Family vs. Societal Responsibilities;
  • Tradition & Change;
  • Personal Journeys

You should populate these with general observations, specific examples and quotes from the work that we have done to date.

REMEMBER – THESE ARE LIVE DOCUMENTS, WE WILL CONTINUE TO ADD TO THESE AS WE CONTINUE OUR STUDIES

You should choose one of the graphic organisers detailed below that best suits your individual learning styles:

COMPARATIVE TABLES:

COMPARATIVE VENN DIAGRAMS:

COMPARATIVE MIND MAPS:

NB: You should finish up with a GRAPHIC ORGANISER for each theme

Enjoy,
