Comparative Texts – Prac SAC Prompts

Hey there kiddos –

The prac SAC prompts for initial deconstruction/planning (general information/specific examples & quotes):

  1. “I told him he shouldn’t change a thing.” (The Queen)

“To Hecuba the image is a shocking one – she is more tied to convention than she believes” (Ransom)

Compare how Ransom and The Queen explore the need for change.

OR

  1. Ransom and The Queen suggest that protocols are vital for effective leadership. Discuss.

Comparative Texts – class practice prompt #2 plus worked samples of introduction/ conclusion

Hey there kiddos –

Here is another practice prompt for us to deconstruct & plan out/write up:

“Compare how perceptions of leadership are challenged in The Queen and Ransom.”

PLANNING TASK: to develop a detailed plan (using the scaffold provided) for the remaining 2 body paragraphs

WRITING TASK: to write up one of the last 2 practice prompts that we have planned out in your own words

NB: YOU CAN OF COURSE USE A HYBRID STRUCTURE FOR YOUR 2 BODY PARAGRAPHS WHERE YOU COMPARE AND CONTRAST BOTH SUPPORTIVE & CHALLENGING ASPECTS OF YOUR PERSPECTIVE ON THE PROMPT

Comparative Texts – Class practice prompt

Hey there kiddos –

Here is the prompt that we will be working on as a class activity today:

“Both texts depict situations where effective leadership is reliant on a leader’s willingness to compromise”

Discuss.

Using the shared doc COMPARATIVE TEXTS – DECONSTRUCTION OF PROMPT in our Google Classroom, we will be looking to:

  • Deconstruct the prompt
  • Identify similarities & differences (supports/challenges)
  • The use of the scaffold to structure up a response
  • Then complete a group planning tasks to create detailed plans for:
    • Introduction
    • Body paragraph #1
    • Body paragraph #2
    • Conclusion

Comparative Texts – Amended SAC conditions

Hey there kiddos –

BIG CHANGES are coming for you!

The Year 12 English team has met and we were thinking of how we wanted to make this last SAC as achievable as possible for all of you – we want all of you to be as successful as you can be! With this in mind please note the following changes to the assessment:

  • SAC will take place in one of your Week 9 classes (your teacher will let you know of the exact details) for 100 mins. – for our class, that will be FRIDAY 10th SEPTEMBER, sessions 1 & 2
  • Essay will require you to write 900 words as opposed to 1200
  • Essay will require you to only write an introduction, 2 body paragraphs (1 that SUPPORTS the prompt and 1 that CHALLENGES the prompt) and a conclusion
  • You will be supplied with 3 prompts as opposed to 2 so you have more of a chance to show your knowledge of the text with a prompt that suits you (still only CHOOSE 1).
  • Some scaffolds and material will be supplied
  • We will require you to sign an authentication record and it goes without saying that we will be checking for plagiarism and each class will be receiving separate prompts – the same penalties for plagiarising still apply

We hope this helps!

Enjoy,

Comparative Texts – SAC preparation topic

Hey there kiddos –

Here is a SAC practice prompt for us to look at and develop a detailed plan (and possible drafting out a response):

“I appeal to you as a father.” (Ransom)

“Always physical, never afraid to show her feelings.” (The Queen)

Compare the difficulty characters in both texts have with reconciling family, leadership and power.

Processes to follow:

  • Deconstruct the prompt
  • Identify similarities & differences (supports/challenges)
  • The use of the scaffold to structure up a response

A discussion paper on how to approach this:
